The Benue State House of Assembly today passed into law, the Local Government amendment bill, 2016.
A statement by the Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Bem Abunde said that the passage will permit the State Governor to appoint Sole Administrator for the twenty three Councils in the State.
The passage followed a clause by clause consideration of the proposed law in the Committee of the Whole Chaired by the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, Mr. Terkimbi Ikyange
Cited as Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2016, the bill as passed shows that whenever it becomes impossible to conduct election after the two terms of Caretaker Committee of six months each and three months for the DGSAs, the Governor shall appoint Sole Administrators to handle the affairs of the Councils.
It is a new sub-section 6 of Section 21 of the law and it is for a renewable period not exceeding six months term.
Governor Samuel Ortom is expected to ascent the bill on return to the state.
