TOR TIV V: Gov. Ortom Tasks Coronation Committee On Sacrifice

By Jimin Geoffrey
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has advised members of the coronation committee for the Tor Tiv Elect, HRM, Prof. James Ayatse to make personal sacrifices to ensure the success of the event.

He stated this today during the inauguration of the coronation committee at the New Banquet Hall of the Benue People's House, Makurdi.

The Governor said even with lean resources due to economic recession, he would do his best to make the coronation ceremony colourful and befitting of the lengthy time it took to select the Tor Tiv.

While appreciating the traditional rulers for the peaceful and transparent selection of the Monarch and other traditional rulers for the Tiv nation, Governor Ortom expressed optimism that the emergence of Prof. Ayatse would engender peace and unity in Tiv land, stressing that his public utterances had already pointed to the fact that he would be a father to all.

Governor Ortom stated further that the Tiv nation believes in Prof. Ayatse who he said had been tested and found capable in several assignments.

While pledging his unalloyed support to the traditional institution and the need to accord it the reverence it deserves, the governor called for a clear distinction between the traditional and political institutions in the interest of the state.

He said it was only through clear definition of traditional and political roles and self respect that the institutions would not dabble into each other's affairs for the benefit of the entire state.

The governor noted that the selection of the coronation committee cuts across all spheres of life not respecting any of the political divides.

Responding, Chairman of the committee and former Military Governor of Benue State, General Atom Kpera (Rtd), appreciated Governor Ortom for finding them worthy of the assignment, assuring that they would not disappoint the confidence reposed in them.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Titus Zam will serve as Secretary of the Coronation Committee.
