The Benue House of Assembly has threatened to take “severe measures” against the management of NICON Insurance Company, if it fails to honour its invitation to appear before it on, or before Tuesday, January 31.
The management of the outfit is expected to appear and explain why it had refused to compensate the state government over the burnt portion of the Makurdi Modern Market.
The state lawmakers, at a plenary, on Thursday, said that they would invoke the provisions of Section 129, sub section d, of the law, to ensure compliance.
The Speaker of the House, Terkimbi Ikyange, announced the resolution following the refusal of the management of the company to honour its initial invitation, without any excuse.
Speaking when the matter came up for debate, the Minority Leader, Mallam Audu Sule, had said that the non-appearance by the company without any reason, constituted a breach of the constitution and moved that the management of the Insurance company be granted another date to appear before the House.
“This time if it fails, the House should invoke the necessary provisions of the Constitution.”
The motion was seconded by Bem Mngutyo, member representing Tarka Constituency.
