Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom has commended the Nigerian Army for the vital role it is playing in the stick approach to restore peace in parts of the state.
Governor Ortom who was represented by his Deputy, Engineer Benson Abounu, gave the commendation today during a courtesy call by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi.
He said the peace being enjoyed in the state is the result of combined efforts by the Army, Department of State Services, DSS and the Police.
The Governor who described the Nigerian Army as one of the best in the world, gave assurance that his administration will continue to support security agencies in the task of protecting lives and property.
He said the army in particular had helped in minimising activities of hersdmen who invade communities of the state, kill and displace thousands of people.
He recalled the role young men from the state played in the military to keep the country as one, promising that Benue will remain an army-friendly state.
Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, informed the Governor that he was in Benue for the Chief of Army Staff Conference, saying that while in the state, he would also commission some water projects in the barracks.
He commended the Ortom administration for the enabling environment provided for officers and men of the Nigerian Army to operate and gave assurance that the Army would continue to perform its duties professionally.
Present at the courtesy call were the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Dr Bem Melladu and other members of the State Executive Council, as well as senior Army officers.
