It was drama inside the Nairobi County Assembly on Thursday afternoon as a lawmaker was brutally beaten and robbed.
According to The Kenyans, the Assembly proceedings turned messy after CORD MCA from Viwandani Ward, Samwel Nyangwara who was tabling a motion to impeach Governor Evans Kidero was attacked.
A recording of the session shows male ward representative shoving each other amid yells and screams as Sergeant-at-Arms struggled to control the situation.
Other members were seen pouring and throwing bottles as the situation worsened.
Addressing the press after the fracas, Mr Nyangwara claimed he was roughed up by CORD representatives who robbed him.
“They beat me and stole my phone and Sh5,000," the county lawmaker said.
It was gathered that tension rose inside the House after County Assembly Speaker Alex Ole Magelo approved the motion and gave a go-ahead for it to be discussed.
The motion was drafted in August by Nyangwara having met the required threshold. Those in support accused Governor Kidero of violating the Constitution on various occasions since taking office.
Those who were against the bill faulted the decision to impeach the governor leading to chaos.
