Gov. Samuel Ortom React To The Multiple Taxation In The State [Read Details]

By Tahav Agerzua

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has moved to tackle multiple taxation in the state by inaugurating the joint State Revenue Committee.

Performing the ceremony at the Benue Peoples House yesterday he said the committee was inaugurated in accordance with the relevant tax laws.

"Benue State is the most affected with traders boycotting our markets as a result of this unfortunate but avoidable man-made problem, it is time to do away with this ugly development," he stated.

Membership of the committee is drawn from the Benue Internal Revenue Service, the 23 councils, the Federal Road Safety Commission, the Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, as well as the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

The Governor listed harmonizing tax administration in the state, enlightening members of the public generally on State and Local Government Revenue matters, implementing decisions of the Joint Tax Board (JTB), and holding joint monthly revenue reconciliation meetings between the state and  local governments.

In her response on behalf of committee members, Mrs Mimi Adzape-Orubibi, chair of the Benue State Internal Revenue Service,  pledged that the committee would go to work immediately to discharge its mandate and also ensure that no one was short changed.

Governor Ortom also received a delegation from the National Museum Makurdi led by the curator, Mrs Bienyaan Yashim Bitiyong.
He pledged to partner with the management of the organization to add value on service delivery in the sector.
The curator had solicited assistance in the discharge of her mandate.

Earlier he had received the local organizing committee of the All Anglican Clergy Conference coming up later in the month in Benue State with a pledge to assist in the successful hosting of the conference.
