An appeal has gone to the Benue State Government and its federal counterpart to help rehabilitate the victims of the Fulani herdsmen attacks in the Agatu Local Government Area of the state.
The appeal was made by the acting chairman of the local government council, Mr Okpale Omenka, during an interactive session with some members of a group, Opiatoha K’ Idoma.
Omenka said there was a need for the federal and state governments to make life meaningful for the victims of the attacks who had been traumatised, adding that the herdsmen invasion of Agatu was worse than what took place in the country’s North-East.
He called on both governments to embark on the rehabilitation exercise through construction of houses, provision of building materials and other essentials of life.
The chairman particularly called on the Victims Support Fund under the chairmanship of Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd) to urgently come to the aid of the victims especially as rains had come.
Describing Agatu as an agrarian community, he solicited for the provision of seedlings and farm implements for the people so as to enable them go back to their farms.
In his remarks, the Secretary-General of Opiatoha K’ Idoma, Adoka Adaji, called on the Idoma people to be their brothers’ keepers in time of need and crisis.
