Benue State Government has appealed to local government workers to exercise patience as efforts are being intensified to clear pending cases of salary arrears and entitlements of retirees and deceased staff.
This appeal was made by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr.Titus Zam when he met with local government worker at Naka, Gwer- West Local Government, Wednesday.
He said frantic and necessary arrangements were being put in place to pay the arrears, which involves a six-month salary backlog, as soon as possible.
In his remarks, Chairman National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE in the area, Comrade Augustine Ayerga, expressed delight with the visit of the Special Adviser and asked him to help sort out pending payments especially the April 2011 salary arrears owed them including entitlements to retirees and deceased staff.
Earlier in his welcome address, Acting Chairman and DGSA, Gwer-West Local Government Council, Mr Tordue Ayo, stated that he invited the Adviser to local government to see the level of infrastructural decay at the council and assist the council with funds to rehabilitate same.
Mr. Ayo regretted that most offices have gone bad with tattered roof tops thereby not only rendering such occupants office less but posing as death traps.
