The Senior Assistant General Secretary of Nigerian Union of
Pensioners, NUP Mr Mohammed Ehada was today arraigned before a Makurdi
high court along with other national officials now at large to prove why
they should not be committed to prison over failure to remit a cheque
of over N470 million dues meant for Benue State chapter of the union.
The Presiding Judge, Justice Theresa Igoche had ordered that the national officials of the NUP in conjunction with Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC ensure the remittance of the said amount to the Benue State chapter with two weeks from the 14th of May this year, which they failed to do.
The counsel to the defendant, Mr Idikwu begged the court that he had filed a fresh process to show reasons why the monies were yet to be remitted, however counsel for the state chapter of NUP, Mr Iortyom Wombo said the process was served today while in court and needed time to respond.
