Gov. Samuel Ortom Flags Off 33 Rural Projects In The State

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, yesterday flagged off the commencement of work on one of the 33 rural projects being executed by the Bureau for Rural Development and Cooperatives in the state.
The ceremony took place at Tse-Abi in Guma local government area.
He stated that the 51 kilometer road would link several communities adding that with its completion rural dwellers in the area would experience a new lease of life socially and economically.
The Governor stated that “32 other rural projects awarded by my administration domiciled at the Bureau of Rural Development and Cooperatives are at various stages of completion."
“These projects cut across the three Senatorial Zones and I urge the good people of the state where they are located to demonstrate patriotism by owning them and ensuring that they are protected from vandals.”
Governor Ortom said the projects include rural roads and bridges as well as electrification adding that the Bureau had completed several projects inherited from previous administrations while work was ongoing on others.
He expressed appreciation to the Special Adviser on Rural Development and Cooperatives, Dr. Adzer Abya, and his staff for working tirelessly and assiduously towards ensuring that the projects were executed.
Governor Ortom announced the takeover of the the electricity project embarked upon by a former House of Reps Member for Makurdi-Guma constituency in Saghev so as to ensure its completion.
Dr. Abya disclosed that the contract cost N481 million with a completion period of one year while the Chief Executive Officer of the contractor, Kontrakraft GB Nigeria Limited, Mr. Mike Vaatia, assured that all things being equal he would complete the job within five months.
Also speaking, Lobi first class traditional ruler, Chief Moses Anageende, lauded the Ortom administration for constructing roads that had been abandoned in the local government area for many years, describing such gesture as unprecedented.
He also commented the Governor for finding people of area worthy of appointment into key positions of government and urged them to continue to support the administration to succeed.
Sole Administrator of Guma Local Government, Mr.Anthony Shawon, described the flag off as one of the many monumental achievements of the Ortom administration.
The Governor also flagged off dry season farming at Agasha with the pledge that he would collaborate with the International Fund for Agriculture Development, IFAD, and farmers in the state to boost all year farming.
He said with abundant arable land and two major rivers running across the state what was needed was an enabling environment to enable the people realize their potentials in food production.
