Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, directed Sole Administrators of the 23 local government areas in the state to take proactive security measures to forestall breakdown of law and order.
He gave the charge during an expanded security council meeting with the administrators at the New Banquet Hall of the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi.
The Governor said such measures should include sensitization of major stakeholders as well as prompt reports about threats to security.
According to him, the dry season was a time when there were threats to peace and security in several parts of the state which dictated the taking of proactive security measures to stem.
He directed the administrators to work closely with security committees recently inaugurated by Special Adviser on Security Colonel Edwin Jando retired.
Heads of security agencies in the state including the army, police, civil defence and state security services briefed the Sole Administrators during the session.
The administrators of Agatu, Mike Inalegwu, Logo, Mfaga Usula, and Buruku, Mrs Justina Sorkaa spoke on behalf of their colleagues.
The Governor also assisted a group of 24 women and children from Agyaragu in Nasarawa State who were stranded with cash foodstuffs and logistics to return home.
The group was brought to him by the Sole Administrator of Gwer local government, Benedict Achado.
Governor Ortom made contact with his Nasarawa State counterpart, Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura and both agreed that the women and children be returned to their state.
