The federal government has filed a fresh N7 billion criminal charge against former governor of Benue State, Dr. Gabriel Suswam, his former commissioner of Finance, Mr. Omodachi Okolobia and one Janet Aluga.
The federal government in the two separate charges accused Suswam and others of conspiring to launder the sum of N7billion during their service as officers of Benue State government.
They were also accused of diverting the sum of N450million belongingto the Benue State government.
They were supposed to be arraigned before Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja but the case could not go on because the prosecuting counsel, David Igbodo informed the court that the office of the Inspector General of Police IGP, will be collaborating with the office of the Attorney General of the Federation to prosecute the matter and as a result will require enough time to put their house in order so as to pursue the matter efficiently.
He said the collaboration has become necessary following the quantum of the charge and that in order to prosecute the matter without hitches, both offices will require enough time to put their house in order.
He said, “There is a recent development that made the IG request that the file be sent to the AGF because of the quantum of evidence recovered.”
