Okechukwu, who spoke during a ceremony to mark the 10th anniversary of the coronation of Igwe Ambassador L. O. C. Agubuzu of Olo Kingdom, in Olo, Enugu, urged Igbos to support the Buhari administration.
He said Igbos would miss a golden opportunity to go for the presidency in 2023 if another northerner takes over from Buhari in 2019.
"If any other northerner becomes president in 2019, the person will naturally seek another four years in 2023," Okechukwu said.
The All Progressives Congress chieftain said the option before the Igbo was to organise to go for the presidency in 2023, or continue agitating for the actualisation of Biafra, which he described as a wrong choice.
Okechukwu said the continuous agitation for Biafra had alienated the Igbos from mainstream national politics.
He said,
"The quest for a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction could be better achieved if Ndigbo support President Buhari.
"Embracing the Buhari government returns Ndigbo to the mainstream and opens a window to appeal to their South-West and South-South brothers to give them the chance, based on equity and justice, especially when both had served their turns, since our entry into the 4th Republic in 1999."
