An electronic irrigation device invented by a group of students in Makurdi is to be supported by the Benue State Government to enable it gain international recognition.
Governor Samuel Ortom made known the decision of the State Government to support the invention, when he received the new Zonal Director, Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, Mr. Ogbonaya Ogwu who led the kids to visit him at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi.
Governor Ortom directed the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Dennis Ityavyar to liaise with relevant government agencies, the school children and their coordinator to workout modalities on how the device could be used by farmers in the state.
The irrigation device which is designed to be operated with a mobile phone by whoever owns it to water food crops and other plants, was adjudged second best in this year's National Young Inventors Competition recently held in Abuja.
The Young Inventors are students drawn from selected secondary schools in Makurdi who participated in a competition to showcase their technology on irrigation farming.
The Governor who thanked NTA for sponsoring the competition, restated the resolve of his administration to support creative ideas and enjoined those with similar innovations to come forward.
Earlier, the new NTA Zonal Director, Mr. Ogwu called for the sustenance of the cordial working relationship between the corporation and the State Government.
