Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam has revealed that the 107 billion Naira he has been accused of misappropriating from the state was actually expended on constructing part of the Zaki-Biam-Afya-Gbeji road which the present government is completing.
The former governor who expressed this during a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) decamping ceremony organised in Ukum local government stated his satisfaction at the quality of work by the Samuel Ortom led government on the road he was unable to finish during his tenure due to lack of cash.
According to witnesses who attended the decamping ceremony, Suswam acknowledged the unavailability of funds in the present administration, also commended the ability of the state government to further complete projects abandoned by his admistration.
“ … Today our governor has done something that is commendable. I started the longest portion of Zaki-Biam/ Afia/Gbeji road… i think i must commend our governor for showing signs that he is willing to complete what we left behind because we ran out of cash. Atleast he has added something to what the 107 billion Naira has done”. He said
It is worthy to note here that Gabriel Suswam is in a legal tussle with the state government and has severally been a guest of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as well as Special Fraud Unit (SFU) of the Nigerian Police for embezelling and misappropriating 107 billion Naira while he held sway as Benue State Governor.
