Gov. Ortom Wants To Destroy Okpokwu, I Regret Ever Supporting Him - Josephine Akioyamen

Recent decisions taken by Benue State Governor has got popular Okpokwu-born blogger, Josephine Akioyamen pissed.

In a recent outburst following the release of the governor’s 23 nominees for the position of local government sole administrators, Akioyamen accused the governor of using negative tactics to unsettle Okpokwu local government, saying he regretted ever supporting him.

She said: It is clear to me that Ortom wants to destroy Okpokwu. It is now clear to me that he enjoys the crisis that has been going on in Okpokwu since the inception of his administration. Were it not so, he wouldn’t want to impose a woman we do not know her qualification Anna Itodo over a more qualified lawyer Mrs Adulugba.”

It is understood that Mrs Adulugba was the popular consensus nominee from Okpokwu local government, however following a closed door meeting with  the State Assembly Speaker, Hon Terkimbi Ikyange, her name was replaced with one Mrs Anna Itodo.

It was gathered that Hon Ikyange was pushing for his Deputy’s candidate, Hon Olofu but they eventually lost out to the supremacy of the First Lady, Mrs Eunice Ortom who is Mrs Anna Itodo’s secondary school classmate.

Akioyamen continued, “Ortom is always in the habit of doing this to the Okpokwu… besides, Anna Itodo is from eke ward in Edumoga where the two past transitional chairmen came from. Ortom by this act is trying to unsettle the peace in Edumoga.

“I regret ever supporting this Governor. I’m beginning to think it is the greatest political mistake I have ever made. His decision-making ability is questionable.”

Recall that due the state governments inability to conduct local government council elections, the state Assembly amended the local government law to permit the appointment of sole administrators for the 23 councils in the state.

Governor Ortom, while accenting to the law, promised to give stakeholders from each local government the opportunity to make thier nominations and warned against lobbying.
He assured that the appointments would be made on the basis of truth, equity and fairness.

The Ortom has since forwarded the list of nominees to the state House of Assembly through a letter signed by the acting Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Bem Melladu.

The house has commenced screening the nominees and would confirm them on or before next week Tuesday, according to Assembly sources.
