No less than three suspected kidnappers have been arrested by the Benue state police command in Ohimini Local Government Area of the state.
According to the command spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu, the suspects namely Abdullahi Yahaya aka Oscar, Abubakar Hussain and Kelvin Ameh aka too deep were arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-robbery Squad, SARS following a tip- off.
The suspects were found with one Automatic pump action no. 156254, eleven (11) cartridges, one locally fabricated Berretta pistol with twenty-eight (28) rounds of live ammunition, one navy blue Golf car with reg no KOGI LKJ 44 OCV, criminal charms and a cash sum of thirty-six (₦36,000) thousand naira.
ASP Yamu said the suspects confessed to the kidnap of Dr. Godwin Abah in Otukpo, Mr. Emmanuel of Eupi village in Otukpo, Mr. Simon of Ogobia village in Otukpo and Mr. James Oni, the bursar of Idah Polytechnic, KOGI State.
In a related development, the Benue state police command said their men had last Tuesday intercepted three (3) persons in a black Toyota Corolla car popularly called “Duck Nyansh” with reg. no WKR 825 AA along Tyohanye – Gboko road during a spot search and recovered Three (3) AK47 rifles, eight (8) magazines, one hundred and twelve (112) rounds of live ammunition, criminal charms, seventeen (17) wraps of Indian hemp, four (4) mobile phones and two (2) ATM cards.
It was reported that the suspects took to their heels in a bid to escape having realised the discovery and were demobilised by gun, they sustained fatal injuries and were confirmed dead on reaching a hospital in Makurdi, the state capital.
Since the expiration of the state government’s amnesty period of grace for criminals, the police has stepped-up their crackdown on criminals with significant dividends.
