Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom said people mocked him when he gave out his only house and car to the Church in 1994.
The Governor who spoke on the occasion of the launch of an appeal fund for the completion of NKST Church, Yina, in Makurdi, yesterday, said some people thought he had gone mad when he made the donation but that was the year he recorded financial breakthrough.
He said he gave those things back to God who gave him and emphasized that any one who donates towards the propagation of God’s words can never be disappointed.
The governor announced donations on behalf of his family, the executive council and the state government, and was supported by government officials who accompanied him.
Earlier, the Pastor in-charge of NKST, Yina, Rev (Dr) Kurugh Antiev, had spoken about the contributions made by Senator George Akume and Governor Samuel Ortom who was then a Minster of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Highlight of the event was the prayer the State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Rev Akpen Leva, and other ministers of God said for Governor Samuel Ortom and members of his cabinet.
