Speaker of Benue State House of Assembly, Hon Terkimbi Ikyange has said the duo of Hon Paul Biam and Hon Kester kyenge, both of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP want to overthrow him.
The Speaker made this allegation while interacting with newsmen yesterday in Makurdi, the state capital.
He said the though who were indicted of fraud by a state Judicial Commission of Enquiry lately are stopping at nothing in their desperation to become Speaker.
“If Hon. Kyenge is asked by the Justice Kpojime Panel to refund a huge amount of money to government coffers, you know that he will not fold his hands but will fight back just like Hon. Paul Biam of Ukum constituency who is to cough out N350m. Don’t forget that both of them were coming to become the speaker and the chance is not there.” Hon Ikyange said.
He added that, as part of their plot to destabilise the All Progressives Congress, APC led administration, the PDP lawmakers had fabricated media reports that the assembly was planning to impeach the Deputy Governor, saying he was not aware of such plans.
He said, “Well, some of my members were mentioned in the purported impeachment plan which I’ m not aware. Let me tell you that APC has wrestled power from the then ruling PDP in the state in which the governorship result margin was just 100,000 votes. So, APC government in the state is not comfortably enjoying power. With this, do you think the PDP will sit and be clapping or thanking APC?”.
Meanwhile, PUNCH Newspapers, in which the impeachment publication was made, has since tendered an unreserved apology to the Deputy Governor, Engr Benson Abounu.
