Stakeholders and elders of Benue South senatorial district of Benue
state have warned former Minister of State for Niger-Delta, Sam Odeh and
state Assembly Deputy, Hon Ejembi Okefe to stair clear of the deputy
governor, Engr, Benson Abounu.
The duo are reportedly behind recent publications of an alleged move
by the Benue state House of Assembly to impeach the state Deputy
Governor.
The stakeholders and elders who met yesterday in Makurdi and
thereafter paid the deputy governor a solidarity visit at the Benue
People’s House affirmed their support for his leadership, resolving to
give him their total support and that of the entire people of Benue
South people in the wake of such allegations.
Led by elder statesman and chairman, Opiatoha K’Idoma, Chief Baba
Odangla, the 40-man delegation told the deputy governor that though they
don’t believe the story about the purported move to impeach him as he
has done no wrong, they still find it expedient to visit him given the
sinister motive of those behind the false publications.
Chief Odangla who condemned their action disclosed that the primary
motive for the false publications was to embarrass and discredit the
deputy governor and turn the people against him, adding that even the
office of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly has denied the
existence of any impeachment move.
The elders expressed anger at the alleged involvement of two of
their sons in the plot to unseat the deputy governor and their use of
falsehood as a vehicle for achieving their selfish aim.
“Whereas, we shall support and encourage the legitimate aspirations
of our people, we stand opposed to the aspiration of anyone that seeks
the ouster and replacement of another person from office through
blackmail and organised falsehood”.
The elders who commended the honest and transparent leadership of the
Samuel Ortom administration as well as the wonderful partnership
between Governor Ortom and Engr. Abounu which has translated into
numerous developmental milestones in the state warned detractors and
enemies of Benue South not to constitute themselves into clog in the
wheel of progress.
“Whoever stands in the way of Engr. Abounu and his efforts at
bringing developmental succour to our people makes himself an enemy of
the collective aspiration and interest of Benue south senatorial
district.”
Responding, Engr. Abounu said he was overwhelmed by the surprise
visit and the number of highly respected elders that sacrificed their
time to be there. He thanked the people for their awesome show of love
and solidarity and for putting the people first before themselves.
He allayed their fears and told them that there exist no moves to
remove him explaining that the publications were the handiwork of
mischief makers who are pursuing their narrow, selfish interest.
He described the visit as heart-warming and enthused that this show
of love by his own people would serve as a tonic to do more for their
benefit.
Among the delegates were second republic senator, Senator Godwin
Okpe, former minister, Prof. Jerry Agada, President, Omiyin Igede, Chief
Ode Enyi, former PDP chairmen – Chief Agada Igomu and Chief Mike Iduma,
Barr. Peter Ochejile, Dr. Matthias Oyigeya, Chief Mike Inalegwu,Sir
