The current edition of Nigerian Oracle, the newspaper of Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom is not in circulation.
A frantic search for the highly respected newspaper all through last
week in the nooks and crannies of Makurdi and Benue yielded no result as
no vendor was given even though a few copies were spotted within the
government house.
It is understood that the edition of newspaper contains a full page
interview with prime suspect in the murder of the Governors aide on
Security, Denen Igbana who was assassinated a few weeks ago at his
residence in Tionsha area of Makurdi.
In the interview, the former war lord exonerated himself from the
killing saying he was also investigating the said assassination. He
added that he was only involved in fights against killer herdsmen and
against other forms of illegality and lamented that his acceptance of
the amnesty programme has incapacitated him.
While nine suspects including the Special Adviser to the Governor on
Special Duties, Arc Joseph Kyaagba, have been arrested and charged to
court in connection with the murder of Governor Ortom’s aide, the prime
suspect who is also a beneficiary of the state governments amnesty
programme, was rather handled the luxury of an interview with the
Governor’s newspaper.
According to sources, the sensitivity of the matter led to the
withdrawal of the newspaper from circulation, to prevent outrage from
the masses who are beginning to question the integrity of the
investigation since the prime suspect is still at large.
