THE scene was grisly. The mangled remains of a commercial motorcyclist
onthe Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane at Agric Bus Stop, Ikorodu, Lagos
was the cynosure of all eyes and cause of a severe gridlock that
almost grounded traffic into and out of Ikorodu.Despite several
warnings by the Lagos State government that all motorcycle (Okada)
riders should steer clear of BRT lanes and expressways across the
state,a middle-aged man met his untimely death yesterday when a BRT
bus crushed him to bits.An eyewitness, who spoke to The Guardian, said
the development almost resulted into a breakdown of law and order but
for the prompt intervention andpresence of security operatives, who
kept protesters at bay. However, BRT operations along the Ikorodu
corridor was disrupted for several hours, especially between Agric Bus
Stop and Ikorodu garage, as many drivers refused getting to the area
for fear of reprisal attacks.
