Emami to PDP: I vacated my position
before your purported impeachment
WARRI—THERE was drama, Tuesday, at the Warri
South-West Local Government Area, Delta State,
Legislative Arm in Ogbe-Ijoh, when the councillors
elected on the platform of Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP, during a sitting purportedly impeached
Mr. Thomas Emami as Deputy Leader of the House
over his defection to All Progressives Congress,
APC.
Reacting, Emami described the action of his
colleagues as an indication “of ignorance of what
the law stipulates,” insisting that he had sent his
letter of resignation as Deputy Leader of Warri
South-West Legislative Arm since June 12, and that
the Clerk of the House read it out during the
sitting, yesterday.
Emami, who described the action of his colleagues
as witch-hunting, said that only his constituency
has the right to recall him as councillor and as
such did not require the consent of his PDP
colleagues to join the APC.
He vowed to use every legal means to continue to
represent people of Akpakpa Ajudaibo Ward in
Warri South-West, citing the examples of former
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr
Aminu Tambuwal as well as former Speaker of
Delta State House of Assembly, Mr Victor Ochei
who retained their legislative seats despite
decamping to other political parties.
